Presenters

Christopher Susag

Training Support Specialist, Arizona Public Service (APS) Generation

Christopher Susag is the Training Support Specialist for Arizona Public Service Generation. He currently manages and maintains the company’s two Learning Management Systems (Vector Solutions and SuccessFactors). Prior APS Christopher served in the US Navy as a Machinist Mate Chief (E-7) Submarines. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education from Montana State University. Later he taught High School Physics, Chemistry, Life, Physical and Earth sciences for over six years.

Currently located at APS Cholla Generating Station, Susag began with APS as an Auxiliary Operator and soon moved into a role as Mechanical Training Instructor in 2005. Since then, he has been involved in, trained, and led maintenance, operations, and leadership training and development. He was the Training Supervisor from 2012 to 2020 and has occasionally stepped in as interim Training Manager. He is certified by NCCER as a Master Trainer and is the NCCER Director/Administrator for APS, the local college, and high schools.

Outside of APS Christopher serves as an advisory board member for Northland Pioneer College Industrial Maintenance and Operations and Welding programs. He has also been on the school board for the Northern Arizona Vocational Institute of Technology (NAVIT) for the past 10 years.

LaRuthie Mason

Corporate Manager of Technical Education, Shaw Industries

LaRuthie Holder Mason is a Corporate Manager of Technical Education at Shaw Industries with over 15 years of experience helping technical professionals and associates with their educational and developmental needs. Specializing in technical education and project management, LaRuthie uses that experience to oversee the Shaw Technical Academy and Makerspace, focusing on advancing technical education and fostering innovation.

By focusing on being a results-driven, conscientious problem solver with a heart for people, LaRuthie has been able to put the degrees she earned in Mathematics from St. Vincent College and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, to good use. Over the years, her strengths as a Project Engineer, Plant Engineer, Industrial Maintenance Training Manager, and Engineering Education Manager at Shaw Industries have garnered recognition, including the STEP Ahead Award in 2016, which honors women in manufacturing leadership.

In addition to her professional responsibilities, LaRuthie co-chairs BLACK ARG (Building Leaders and Cultivating Knowledge), an associate resource group at Shaw Industries for Black associates and their allies. BLACK ARG is committed to creating a culture where all individuals grow and thrive. Through targeted mentorship, wellness, and financial literacy initiatives, BLACK empowers its members to reach their full potential. The group also partners with community leaders and agencies for the common good and collaborates with other ARGs to foster a sense of belonging where they live and work.

LaRuthie may spend her days at Shaw Industries, but it’s the opportunity to promote STEM Outreach to the youth in the community that gets her up in the morning. When she’s not at Shaw Industries, LaRuthie is an avid community volunteer and loves spending time with her family in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
