Implementing health and safety best practices for all athletes should be a priority for K-12 athletic directors, administrators, healthcare staff, risk managers, and other support staff.

This webinar will highlight the need for education and compliance specific to the health and safety of students participating in middle and high school, club, and rec sports. Acknowledging risk and liability, and creating a safe environment for student athletes is vital to sports participation and can be enhanced with prevention strategies at any level.

  • Learn the essential elements for developing emergency action plan standards of care for catastrophic incidents, including education, documentation, accountability, preparation, practice drills, rehearsal, and equipment.
  • Deepen understanding of the critical concerns, necessary awareness, targeted training, and preparation for responding to mental health emergencies among athletes.
  • Identify and prioritize the most crucial health and safety education initiatives for middle and high school athletic staff, ensuring they are equipped to protect student-athletes and promote a safe sports environment.

James Borchers, MD, MPH

President and CEO, U.S. Council for Athletes' Health

Dr. James Borchers is the President and CEO of the U.S. Council for Athletes’ Health, as well as the Chief Medical Officer for the Big Ten Conference, physician and Director for the Division of Sports Medicine at the Wexner Medical Center and a Professor of Clinical Family Medicine and Sports Medicine at the OSU College of Medicine. He previously spent 18 years as team physician for the Ohio State Athletics Department, including seven as the head team physician and eighteen working with the football program.

Dr. Borchers played football at Ohio State while earning his undergraduate degree in Chemistry, before going on to earn his MD from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and his Master of Public Health from Ohio State. He is board certified in both family medicine and sports medicine and has been named one of the region’s top doctors, as well as one of the Best Doctors in America.

Angie Beisner, MA AT

Senior Director, U.S. Council for Athletes' Health

Angie Beisner is a certified athletic trainer with over 25yrs of clinical care experience. She has focused her career on the Division I Setting which included 5 years as the Head Athletic Trainer at Ohio State. In addition to her work in the collegiate setting, Angie has previously worked with USA lacrosse including as the lead athletic trainer for Team USA U19 Men’s Lacrosse team. Angie works with USCAH’s valued partners in both collegiate and NGB organizations as a reliable source for innovative solutions and first-class resource.
