The Challenge
As the most populous county in Washington State and 13th most populous in the nation, King County, WA, is home to more than 25% of the state’s total population and makes up a large portion of the Seattle metropolitan area. 39 cities and towns, including Seattle, are within its borders. All told, the density of the population combined with the number of individual communities means that coordinating large-scale fire response is multifaceted.
The South King County Fire Training Consortium (SKCFTC) minimizes that complexity and streamlines mutual aid operations by offering standardized training to a dozen of the fire services in south King County.
Tracking and delivering training to over a thousand firefighters from a dozen different agencies requires a tool with the power to automate and simplify many of the day-to-day tasks required to manage training at such a large scale. In 2021, SKCFTC chose Vector Solutions as their training technology partner and implemented Vector LMS training management system and Evaluations+ live skills assessment app.
The Choice
When selecting a new solution for training tracking and assignments, it was important that it be firefighter-friendly, intuitive, and flexible. Vector LMS checked all those boxes.
“When I look at things, I want it to be very straightforward and easy for the end user. The way firefighters work, if it’s not easy for them, they’re not going to do it,” said Deputy Chief Jimmy Webb.
The Change
Through Vector LMS and Evaluations+, SKCFTC has:
- Offered a standardized training experience to over 1,000 firefighters in the south King County area.
- Increased efficiency through improved ease of use for both admins and users.
- Identified gaps with comprehensive and thorough reporting of training hours.
“[Vector LMS] allows us to get right down to how many hours per firefighter per month that we’re hitting. We have targets for our insurance rating bureau here in Washington and Vector LMS allows us to run those reports in minutes. With the other systems, it just wasn’t as easy to get that information.”
