Portsmouth Police Department Modernizes Training Management with Vector Solutions

“Hi, my name is Eric Benson. I’m the Lieutenant of Personnel and Training with the Portsmouth Police Department. As somebody who’s responsible for the training of the entire department, it’s really critical to be able to effectively manage all of our different employees. The benefit to our department using Vector Solutions is multifaceted.

Our agency has roughly 100 officers, and the requirements for the State of New Hampshire in 2025 are actually getting more stringent. So, it was more training hours that we need to send our officers to. In-person trainings can be very, very expensive. It’s important for us to explore other avenues.

And it really makes it convenient for them.

Vector Solutions allows us to track the amount of training and the type of training that people have gone to. It’s really, really easy to open up reports and run reports and find out what people’s deficiencies are, what trainings they’ve gone to, and what else we need to do to maintain their certification.

For example, when we have quarterly training, our old way of signing up for that training was a piece of paper tacked to a bulletin board. One of the great things about Vector Solutions is that with the event builder, people can enroll and then unenroll in courses from the convenience of their own home if they want to.

As we bring on new officers and dispatchers and they enter the field training phase of their employment, the software actually helps us track their progress. And as they move into a more permanent position, the credential feature in Vector Solutions helps us track necessary things, benchmarks that they have to hit throughout the year, so they don’t lapse in terms of certification or specific training.

Before Vector Training Management System, all of our training data was stored separately in different locations using different applications. By consolidating it into one location, it allows us to pull reports in just a matter of minutes. It’s been such a big benefit to move away from those older archaic systems and more into a 21st century learning platform.
